THE TEAM

WE’RE A SMALL, FRIENDLY AND CAPABLE GROUP. WE WEAR A LOT OF BLACK. EVERYONE LOOKS GOOD IN BLACK.

KEITH
Founder/Head of Production

Keith Oberfeld (the KBO in KBOgroup) began his career as a volunteer in community theatre sometime in the last century. He designed settings, lighting, and sound for college and festival productions, before becoming a rock-and-roll show lighting designer (Blondie, Tom Waits) for a few years. Hoping to retain his hearing and sanity, Keith moved to lighting and production management for corporate events, as well as lighting for film and television. Along the way, Keith acquired an Emmy for his lighting work on the Children’s television show, “Come on Over.”

KBOgroup was formed when Keith perceived a need for an organization whose primary goal was client engagement and success. The partner and client list grew, and today Keith leads an assemblage of talented professionals who love their work, and the clients they serve. When working with opera companies, theatrical productions, corporate partners and non-profit organizations, no two days – or productions – are the same. “I try to see the big picture, and my colleagues do the heavy lifting. At the end of the day, the most important things are satisfied and happy clients, and team members who take pride in what we’ve accomplished.”

MATT
Chief Technical Officer

As Chief Technical Officer, Matt Taylor maps out every aspect of every show in beautifully complex 2D and 3D drawings, working with KBO to determine and source the best possible technical partners.

On site, he supervises the setup, running, and teardown of virtually every component of the show. He is never rattled, even when trucks are late and the talent has missed their plane. Matt understands labor, both union and non-union, and frequently supervises crews of one hundred and more.

In his infrequent spare hours, Matt is the resident lighting designer for the Grand Rapids Ballet, a husband, and dad to two future designers.

MARK
Technical Producer

Mark Neumann is KBOgroup’s IT Genius and Technical Wizard. Mark believes the learning curve for a complex new piece of software should be under three hours. An expert in Watchout presentation software, Mark pushes content to screens with enthusiasm. Also a talented lighting designer, Mark is an expert ETC Eos/Ion programmer and an aficionado of all things LED.

Mark’s performance on a jobsite would leave the Energizer bunny envious. He is never fully dressed without a smile (and a well-coiffed ponytail). When he’s not brightening the room with lights or images, he can be found browsing in catering. As Winnie the Pooh (and Mark) always say, “Life is too short to miss any lunches.”

MICHELE
Chief Client Officer

Michele Ross is KBOgroups’s Chief Client Officer. She’s the “Ready, Set” in “Ready, Set, Go!”

Michele is a gracious communicator, and is in constant contact with team members, vendors, and partners. She gets the ball rolling, and keeps it rolling, even when it’s uphill both ways.

At the end of the show, we often congratulate Michele for a job well done, and more than once she has modestly replied, “I didn’t know it was impossible before we did it.”

HANNAH
Show Caller & Stage Manager

Hannah Verville has multiple roles with KBOgroup. Along with Keith, she is our go-to show-caller. She is also a stellar stage manager, and resident Shoflo (show calling software) expert. In the office, Hannah lives for paperwork and email.

Hannah is a great client communicator, and on job sites is always there to solve the million-and-one front-and-back of house problems. On her rare breaks, you’ll usually find her curled up in a corner reading her Nook, or seeking out her next caffeine fix.
